My fellow frat brothers were a bunch of really good guys.\u00a0 And the years spent in that house were some of the best of all my college days.\u00a0 I made a lot of good and fast friends in that house. And I learned that Ohio is pretty darn big.\u00a0 My fellow frat brothers came from all geographic corners of the buckeye state.<\/p>\n<p>Guys came from cities that we all know.\u00a0 Columbus, Toledo, Cincinnati, and Cleveland.\u00a0 But they also came from towns I never heard of before.\u00a0 Shadyside, Ironton, Van Wert, and Urbana (to name a few).<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Urbana, Ohio\" href=\"http:\/\/www.urbanaohio.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Urbana, Ohio<\/a>.\u00a0 For sure, while growing up in Cleveland, Urbana was a town I never even knew existed.<\/p>\n<p>And, for some reason, Phi Kappa Tau attracted a lot of guys from Urbana.\u00a0 Looking back, the frat house easily had a dozen or so members from this wonderful farming community just an hour or so northwest of Columbus.<\/p>\n<p>Dave Warye, Mike Woodruff, Kym Moore, Steve Diebert, Gary Burris, the Michael Brothers (Scott, Todd and Kurt), and a whole lot of other guys all came from Urbana!<\/p>\n<p>And through their friendship, I gained a whole new respect for farmers and farming.\u00a0 And also came away with a great potato soup recipe!<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; padding: 0in 0in 0.02in; border: medium medium 1pt none none solid -moz-use-text-color -moz-use-text-color #366388;\">You see, the <a title=\"Michael Farms\" href=\"http:\/\/www.michaelfarms.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Michael brothers have one of the largest potato farms in Ohio<\/a>.\u00a0 Now, I love potatoes and always have.\u00a0 So, it was pretty cool having fraternity brothers who grew my favorite vegetable!\u00a0 Their mom, many years ago, passed along a potato soup recipe that I handed to my mother.\u00a0 Mom whipped up pot after pot of that soup. And you just know that all those potato recipes are tucked away for safe keeping. A Michael family tradition for sure.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; padding: 0in 0in 0.02in; border: medium medium 1pt none none solid -moz-use-text-color -moz-use-text-color #366388;\">With just a quick email request to Todd&#8217;s wife Jill, I once again had the Potato soup recipe in hand. I was elated because the recipe was lost someplace in my mother&#8217;s kitchen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; padding: 0in 0in 0.02in; border: medium medium 1pt none none solid -moz-use-text-color -moz-use-text-color #366388;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; padding: 0in 0in 0.02in; border: medium medium 1pt none none solid -moz-use-text-color -moz-use-text-color #366388;\">(Jill has kept the original recipe and refined it a bit combining it with a couple of others.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; padding: 0in 0in 0.02in; border: medium medium 1pt none none solid -moz-use-text-color -moz-use-text-color #366388;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; padding: 0in 0in 0.02in; border: medium medium 1pt none none solid -moz-use-text-color -moz-use-text-color #366388;\">Here then, straight from Jill Michael&#8217;s kitchen in Urbana,Ohio, is the famous <strong>Michael Family Potato Soup Recipe<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<div><span><span id=\"lw_1285472444_0\" style=\"border-bottom: 2px dotted #366388; cursor: pointer; background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% transparent;\">POTATO SOUP<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>6 medium Michael Farms potatoes (cooked in salted  water)<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>2 medium onions (chopped) Add a few <span id=\"lw_1285472444_1\" style=\"border-bottom: 2px dotted #366388; cursor: pointer; background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% transparent;\">green onions<\/span> if you  would like!<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>1 and 1\/2 quarts <span id=\"lw_1285472444_2\" style=\"border-bottom: 2px dotted #366388; cursor: pointer; background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% transparent;\">chicken broth<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>8 oz. <span id=\"lw_1285472444_3\" style=\"border-bottom: 2px dotted #366388; cursor: pointer; background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% transparent;\">cream cheese<\/span> (chunked)<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>Salt to taste<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>1 tablespoon parsley flakes<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>3 strips bacon cooked and crumbled<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>2 drops tabasco sauce<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>1 teaspoon chopped chives and sprinkling of paprika for  topping<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>In dutch oven, cook potatoes and onions in <span id=\"lw_1285472444_4\">chicken  broth<\/span>.\u00a0 Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer\u00a0 and cook for 40  minutes. <\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>Place the potato mixture in blender or food  processor(take out potatoes for chunks if you like), add cream cheese, and puree  until very smooth.\u00a0 Add salt, parsley, and<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>tabasco sauce.\u00a0 Pour mixture into crock pot then  add chunked potatoes and crumbled bacon, stir.\u00a0 Top with chopped chives and  sprinkle with paprika.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>Enjoy!<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1051\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.georgetoon.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/potato-bag.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1051\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1051 \" style=\"border: 1px solid black;\" title=\"potato bag\" src=\"http:\/\/www.georgetoon.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/potato-bag.jpg\" alt=\"Michael Farms Potatoes.
