And while those visuals were quite impressive, the film makers  of Tron used every bit of computer technology, film technology, and  animation processes available at that time to create a world no one had  ever seen before.\u00a0 A world inside a computer.\u00a0 Tron brought to life  Light Cycles, Flying disks, and other computer elements.\u00a0 And the final  result was stunning!\u00a0 It was cool.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oneclicklinux.com\/2008\/02\/my-first-computer.html\">The  film was a big reason why I embraced the computer.\u00a0 In those early  days, I saw the computer as a tool to help me create cartoons and other  cartoon content.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tron&#8217;s filmmakers were really thinking outside the box.<\/p>\n<p>In the same way, Linux developers and community members are constantly  thinking outside the box and improving the OS.\u00a0 Linux offers so much  more.\u00a0 Why settle for the same mundane Windows experience when you can  be using Linux?\u00a0 With Linux you can customize the desktop, look, and  feel to your own liking.\u00a0 Once you have Linux on your desktop, it&#8217;s  yours.\u00a0 You own it.<\/p>\n<p>You can contribute to Linux in a variety of ways.\u00a0 You can develop code  for it, write about it, advocate for it, help others it Linux, etc.\u00a0 You  can share Linux with friends and family.\u00a0 Simply burn a Linux disk and  pass it on to family, parents, friends, faculty, students&#8230;everyone!<\/p>\n<p>Simply <a href=\"http:\/\/www.distrowatch.com\/\">explore the many Linux distributions<\/a> available, pick one, and try it out.<\/p>\n<p>Right now, I&#8217;m using <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pclinuxos.com\/\">PCLinuxOS<\/a> on my laptop and have just added it to my desktop.\u00a0 It&#8217;s cutting edge,  has all the progams I need, supported by a terrific community and well,  everything works!<\/p>\n<p>So, after you get Linux installed on your computer, give the MPlayer Quicktime Plugin a test drive by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/trailers\/disney\/tronlegacy\/\">watching the trailer for the new Tron sequel, Tron Legacy.<\/a> Or test out how great Flash works in Linux by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=1AwvuirSEAA\">watching the trailer on YouTube.com<\/a>.\u00a0 Like Linux, this film is cool raised to a new level!<\/p>\n<p>Tron Legacy opened #1 last weekend.\u00a0 And it&#8217;s in Disney Digital 3D.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=uplw5tlB1ag\">Linux has a cool 3D desktop!<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=uplw5tlB1ag\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>(<strong>Editor&#8217;s note: <\/strong> This article by Mark Szorady is a reprint from a blog post that appeared last year on <a title=\"oneclicklinux.com.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.oneclicklinux.com.\" target=\"_blank\">oneclicklinux.com.<\/a> Given that Tron Legacy opened last weekend, we felt it would be both informative and entertaining here on <a title=\"http:\/\/www.georgetoon.com\/blog\" href=\"http:\/\/www.georgetoon.com\/blog\" target=\"_self\">georgetoon.com<\/a>.)<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Back in 1982, Disney released a groundbreaking movie called Tron.\u00a0 It was the first time (that I can remember) that a film extensively utilized CGI to bring the story to life.
