\nDave Astor\u00a0wrote\u00a0 a very inspiring column<\/a> over the\u00a0Thanksgiving\u00a0weekend. \u00a0 I met Dave through\u00a0cartooning. \u00a0Dave was the\u00a0Syndicates\u00a0reporter at Editor and Publisher.<\/em> Though the years of attending various NCS events, it was always a pleasure running into Dave. \u00a0And, through social\u00a0media\u00a0and the internet,\u00a0I’ve\u00a0been able to stay on touch with Dave.<\/p>\n

Anyhow, Dave’s Facebook page lead me to his latest column. \u00a0As I read it, I recalled my own leap into literary adulthood. \u00a0The big jump came in\u00a0Junior\u00a0High School. \u00a0My English teacher assigned \u00a0Great Exectations<\/em> by Charles Dickens. \u00a0I can still recall her telling the class,\u00a0emphasizing<\/strong> to us, the need to slow down from our\u00a0hectic\u00a020th century pace when reading this novel. \u00a0Dickens required\u00a0patience\u00a0and attention. \u00a0He’s a very detailed writer.<\/p>\n

Now, wonderfully, I’ve rediscovered all these great literary treasures. \u00a0I’ve been reading a lot of Mark Twain. \u00a0I blogged\u00a0about\u00a0Twain’s A\u00a0Connecticut\u00a0Yankee In King Artur’s Court<\/em><\/a>. \u00a0I recently finished Mr. Twains two volume work Personal Recollections of Joan of Arc<\/em>. \u00a0I agree with Mark Twain, this is his greatest work. \u00a0If you read only one book by Mark Twain, Joan of Arc<\/em> is the one to read!<\/p>\n

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is also in the wings when I want to go on an adventure with Holmes and Watson. \u00a0I also discovered the early 20th century named James Oliver Curwood and his love of nature.<\/p>\n

All these and more are right at my fingertips thanks to The Kindle<\/a>\"\" and Project Gutenberg<\/a>. \u00a0For the price of four hardback books, you can get the newest Kindle<\/a>\"\". \u00a0Once you have a Kindle, all these classics books can be downloaded for free. \u00a0No need to gas up the car and drive to a bookstore. \u00a0No more buying boks online and paying for shipping. \u00a0You can even borrow E-books from your local library!<\/p>\n

But the really big selling point is the thousands of free books\u00a0available\u00a0from \u00a0Project Gutenberg<\/a> (and even amazon.com<\/a>! \u00a0Just use the search term “classics” in their Kindle store).<\/p>\n
