When Ohio State’s new Student Union <\/a>\u00a0opened back in 2010<\/a>, I started receiving calls and emails from\u00a0friends\u00a0near and far. \u00a0Long story short, thanks to OSU Cartoon Library\/Museum curator Dr. Lucy Shelton Caswell, my cartoon artwork was included in the Union’s third floor Cartoon Conference Room. \u00a0And these\u00a0friends\u00a0had visited the new Union during it’s opening weeks<\/a>. Touring the new facility, they happened on the Cartoon Conference Room and were surprised to see my comic strip “George” on display.<\/p>\n

Well, it’s taken me almost three years to make the visit to Ohio State to\u00a0actually\u00a0see my cartoon work on display. \u00a0I’ve received lots of photos from friends and family of the display, but this was the very first time I had a chance to see it in person. \u00a0(I took a road trip to OSU with my brother Tom and niece Kelly.)<\/p>\n

It’s an absolutely \u00a0wonderful honor! \u00a0And it reminds me of what I heard during an address to incoming freshman\u00a0way back in the fall of 1977, \u00a0 “Leave part of yourself behind.” \u00a0 In other words, get involved. \u00a0Contribute\u00a0something, large or small, to OSU which will \u00a0help or inspire other students who follow. \u00a0I made a promise to\u00a0myself\u00a0that I would do something to fulfill those words.<\/p>\n

I’ve been lucky to have had the help and encouragement of my parents, family, fraternity brothers\u00a0at Phi Kappa Tau<\/a>, fellow students, and friends. \u00a0Like any profession, my cartooning career has had its shares of ups and downs. \u00a0Certainly many more ups than downs. \u00a0This is\u00a0definitely\u00a0one of the ups. \u00a0A huge up for sure.<\/p>\n
