{"id":7700,"date":"2015-11-12T05:00:43","date_gmt":"2015-11-12T10:00:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.georgetoon.com\/blog\/?p=7700"},"modified":"2015-11-08T12:54:22","modified_gmt":"2015-11-08T17:54:22","slug":"digital-converter-box-and-free-t-v","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.georgetoon.com\/blog\/digital-converter-box-and-free-t-v\/","title":{"rendered":"Digital Converter Box and Free T.V."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DfhCIiAJd1Q?rel=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>When I&#8217;m in the studio creating a comic feature, I like to have a radio or television turned on. \u00a0It helps fill the air with some background music or talk. \u00a0It also keeps me abreast of any breaking news.<\/p>\n<p>But, subscription television is getting pricey. \u00a0So, I canceled my cable subscription and installed an antenna. \u00a0Local broadcasters have noticed this shift to over-the-air viewership and have expanded their channel offerings. \u00a0Digital broadcasting allows for sub-channels. \u00a0So, if your local station is channel 8, you may find that there&#8217;s also a channel 8.1, 8.2, etc. \u00a0You&#8217;ll happily find that your local station is transmitting two, three, four or more sub-channels featuring news, weather, local talk shows, and classic television programs.<\/p>\n<p>Which brings me to the point of how to get those free signals without shelling out a lot of cash. \u00a0If you&#8217;re like me, you probably still have those big, beautiful CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) television sets in your home. \u00a0And because they&#8217;re analog, you might think they&#8217;re obsolete! \u00a0Well, they&#8217;re not! \u00a0You don&#8217;t have to run off to the local big box store to plunk down $400.0 or more for the latest Flat screen HDTV to receive over-the-air television. \u00a0All you need is an antenna and a digital converter box.<\/p>\n<p>In the above video, I show you one of the converter boxes I own and how it breathes new life into a big &#8216;ol 36-inch CRT.<\/p>\n<p>And here&#8217;s the best part. \u00a0People\u00a0are giving away these televisions! \u00a0(They find that they might be too heavy or cumbersome or take up too much space.) \u00a0Many folks are giving away their converter boxes too. \u00a0In addition, you can find either of these for sale at garage sales or online for 10 to 20 dollars. \u00a0No kidding! \u00a0TVs for as little as 10 bucks or even free! \u00a0Converter boxes for 10 or 20 bucks (I bought one, like new, for five bucks!)<\/p>\n<p>So, before you dump a perfectly good television, explore the option of a getting an antenna and converter box to receive free TV. \u00a0 You&#8217;ll get some great programming and your wallet will thank you.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When I&#8217;m in the studio creating a comic feature, I like to have a radio or television turned on. \u00a0It helps fill the air with some background music or talk. \u00a0It also keeps me abreast of any breaking news.
