For many cartoonists, part of the process is the search to find the ultimate pencil or pen.  Cartoonists draw with, and try, many different kinds of drawing instruments.  With each new acquisition, we have hope that it will breath new life into our artwork.  Or, perhaps, help us to work faster with better results.

So it is with the traditional wet shave.  Many wet shavers enjoy the process so much, they invest in new razors, brushes, soaps, and creams in looking for the ultimate shave.  And since, returning to wet shaving, I’ve dabbled a bit in giving various razors, brushes, etc. a test drive.  Some razors are mild, some aggressive, and still others prove to be somewhere in-between.  But with each new piece of gear, the shave improves, something new is learned,  and the process is refined.

Luckily, along with Amazon.com, there are lots of online retailers who specialize in wet shaving gear.  So, I went online and finally ordered from Maggard Razors. (https://www.maggardrazors.com/)

I purchased a new razor head for a spare handle I’ve had laying about.  And I also picked up a Semogue boar brush.

I’ll give the V3 a test drive and report back with a performance review.  I’m told it’s a bit more aggressive than what I usually use.

The Semogue Boar Brush is quite nice. So far, it promises to be a nice addition to my shaving gear.

If you saw my previous video on the blog showing a real nice wooden bowl that comes with three shaving soap pucks, the question quickly becomes how to securely fit the soap puck into the bowl.

This is, by far, the easiest way to fit a soap puck into any bowl or container.

In this video, I used Colonel Conk’s Lime Shaving Soap and a brand new Kingsley wooden shaving bowl.

The main point to remember is DO NOT bring the water to a boil. Keep it on a medium to high heat and simply allow the water to steam. Place the cut pieces of the shaving soap puck in a heat resistant bowl. I used a Grab It bowl by CorningWare.

Even though I favor going to thrift stores and picking up second-hand bowls to use as shaving bowls, a lot of Wet Shavers have commented on my channel that they’d really like to have a nice wooden shaving bowl.

Well, I found one that is quite affordable and comes with three pucks of soap!

And I can understand. There’s something so very nice and elegant about a wooden shaving bowl.

A nice wooden shaving bowl, as part of your shaving gear, really is a must have item.

(All razors shown in the above video are three-piece razors)

I was curious.

I already own a RazoRock Mission razor. But when I acquired the RazoRock Heavy Duty DE razor (which is short and comes with a stainless steel handle), I really anted to see how the Mission razor with Stainless Steel handle compares with the older Mission razor with chrome plated handle. I’m not sure what the older Mission’s handle was made from. Zamak? Brass? I really don’t know. But the knurling of the stainless steel handle feels more secure in the hand.
Perhaps this is because the knurling is just a bit deeper.

And for only $14.99, it was worth a look.:) I can always PIF. (Pay It Forward).:)

However, as I’ve said before, The Mission razor is a bit too aggressive and I don’t recommend it for beginners.

The Vikings Blade Godfather is very forgiving and the Vikings Blade Chieftain is a wonderfully smooth shave, as well. Either are perfect for beginners and both offer precise blade alignment.
