ACYIKACI stumbled upon a book which has the potential of being the next big-budget Hollywood blockbuster.

It has all the elements…Time travel, adventure, high tech gadgets, battles, fights, comedy, tragedy, romance, Knights in shining armor….

What…wait.   Knights in shining armor??

Yep. You read that correctly.  Knights in shining armor.

The book is Mark Twain’s A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur’s Court. I picked up this book many years ago. I decided to give it a read once more during the summer months.

I encourage you to get a copy, settle in, and let it transport you.

It reads just like a movie. The only initial difficulty is adjusting to some of the Old English dialogue.  After a while, though, it becomes quite charming and you find yourself understanding exactly what the characters are saying.

You might be saying to yourself that this book was already made into a movie.  Well, yes. There’s the Bing Crosby musical version from the 1940s that most everyone knows.

There’s also a Will Rogers version from the 1930s.

Believe me, neither movie version is entirely faithful to the book. Those versions were inspired and based on the book, but obviously  Hollywood did a lot of rewriting.  For instance, In Bing Crosby’s version, a key scene is moved form the beginning to the end.

Will Rogers’ version, though, is fairly close to the book in some aspects.

But a new version that actually follows the book will have audiences siting up in their seats.

A Blockbuster for sure.  Read the book, You’ll agree.

Are you listening Hollywood?

Sounds like 1632, by Eric Flint. 😉

(Imagine a small West Virginia mining town, who one day are startled by a brilliant flash, as if a ring of fire surrounded the town. When the smoke clears, they find themselves in the state of Thuringia (Germany), in the year 1632, smack in the middle of the Thirty Years War….)

Yep, that’s it. (‘The Assiti Shards’ is the overall name given to the background and related stories. The stories about Grantville, WV, and it’s denizens are more commonly referred to as the ‘Ring of Fire’ series, or even the ‘1632 series’.)

By the way, ‘1632’, and several of its sequels are currently in the Baen Free Library, and can be downloaded free for Kindle, ePub readers, and other ereaders.
