Weston and fellow OSU students with Alumnus and past Oval Frisbee tosser Mark Szorady (in the middle). Click to enlarge.
30 years ago, when I attended OSU, I threw a lot Frisbee on the Oval. During Spring Quarter, as soon as the weather warmed up, I carried my Frisbee to class just so I could toss it around with whichever friend or frat brother I met while crossing the oval.
Here it is 30 years later and, during a recent visit to the campus, I found myself crossing the Oval with my brother Tom. As we walked along, we happened to see a group of students tossing the Frisbee. Some things never change.
I don’t know how it happened, but Weston and his buddies gave me a couple of tosses….and I choked! I mean, I couldn’t throw that Frisbee into the ocean! I was 30 years out of practice for sure.
The last thing I heard before my disastrous showing was one of the guys calling out, “Let’s see what ya got, Dad!” All in good fun.
My brother Tom, his daughter Kelly, and I took a road trip to Columbus. On of the main reasons was to pay a visit to the new Ohio Union’s cartoon rooms to see my work on display. More on that on Thursday’s blog post.
We all bumped into each other at the Ohio Union a few hours later and the boys agreed to a photo with their “Dad.”
A real nice experience with some terrific students. The words of “Carmen Ohio” came to mind. “Time an change will surely show, how firm thy friendship O-HI-O.”

Being a member of the National Cartoonists Society, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting a lot ofreally wonderful talented cartoonists. One of the most talented, likable, gregarious, and all around good guys is Adrian Sinnott. Adrian is not only an amazingly talented cartoonist/illustrator and writer, he’s a wiz when it comes to anything and everything with Mac computers and Photoshop. Adrian is probably the dean of Photoshop and all the processes involved with it.
